How to play MLB Player Guessing Game
Name the mystery player. Every guess is a real player, and his file is graded against the mystery man's column by column: debut season, position and clubs every day, plus four more that change daily — bats, throws, birthplace, height, rings, All-Star selections, seasons played, Hall of Fame, draft. Blue means exact, gold means close, and an arrow points from your number toward his. Eight guesses. A name the search cannot read costs you nothing.
Strategy & tips
- Open wide, not close. A first guess from a different era and position tells you more than a near-miss does.
- Gold on position means the right side of the ball — pitcher or not — which halves the field immediately.
- The clubs column counts shared clubs, so a zero is real information: he played nowhere your guess did.
- Use the arrows on debut season before anything else. Era is the fastest cut there is.
About MLB Player Guessing Game
The attribute grid is the format most people mean when they say baseball Wordle, and baseball needs one thing basketball and football do not: three draft answers rather than two. MLB's first amateur draft was in 1965, so a player who debuted before it was not undrafted — there was nothing to be drafted into, and grading those two as a match would assert something false about both.

How many guesses do I get?
Eight. A name the search cannot resolve does not count against them.
What does gold mean?
Close. On a number it means within a couple; on position it means the same side of the ball; on clubs it means you share at least one.
Do the columns change?
Debut, position and clubs are on the board every day. The other four are drawn fresh each day from a pool of nine, so the board keeps its shape without asking the same seven questions forever.
Why does the draft column say 'No draft'?
Because MLB's first amateur draft was in 1965. A player who debuted before it was not undrafted — there was nothing to be drafted into — so that is a third answer rather than a version of the second.
Statistics come from Major League Baseball and cover every player since 1871, including the Negro Leagues, which MLB recognised as major leagues in 2020.
